50 Impact Players in 50 Days: #50 Jamoi Hodge

We are just 50 days from the 2023 Texas College Football Season and thought we should celebrate with a countdown. We have done our homework and have created a list of 50 players on Texas teams that will have a huge impact this season. Feel free to flame away and disagree with us or enjoy the content as we inch closer to another exhilarating opening of the season on Labor Day Weekend.

50. Jamoi Hodge – TCU LB

Jamoi Hodge earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2022

2022 Stats: 82 Tackles, 4.5 Sacks, 8 TFL’s

TCU lost a lot of production from their National Runner-Up Team this offseason, but there is one area they are prepared to run it back and that is at Linebacker. While the Horned Frogs lost All-Big 12 selection Dee Winters to the NFL, they return Shadrach Banks, Johnny Hodges and our 1st player in the countdowns, Jamoi Hodge. Hodge came to TCU via Independence Community College in 2020 in lieu of Louisville, Nebraska, Arizona and SMU. He chose Gary Patterson due to Patterson’s long history of putting defensive players into the NFL. However; after 2 seasons in Ft. Worth, Patterson stepped down as the Head Ball Coach of TCU. Which led to the hiring of Sonny Dykes and the magical 2022 football season.

Last season, Jamoi Hodge started all 15 games for the 13-2 Horned Frogs. His 82 tackles and 4.5 sacks for the TCU Defense landed him third on the team and his 8 TFLs came in 4th in 2022. When you turn on the film to watch Hodge the clips display an old school linebacker flying to the ball and delivering devastating hits repeatedly. Hodge’s style of football leads to high impact plays whether it is sack fumbles, forced fumbles or just momentum changing hits on a pivotal play. Due to this style, Jamoi Hodge will fill the box score in several stats every game this fall. For example, at West Virginia last year he recorded 13 tackles, 2 TFLs, 1 sack and a PBU. Hodge finished his 1st season as a starter ranked in the top 20 of the Big 12 in both tackles and sacks. He will be accompanied by potential All-American Johnny Hodges, who might garner the majority of attention from opposing game plans. Therefore, there is a real chance that Jamoi Hodge finds himself in favorable matchups this fall. Very similar to how a super star wide receiver draws the attention from the defense, giving way to the #2 receiver and running game, Hodge should benefit in the same manner this season. Combine that with his nose for the football, his high motor and love for contact and you have yourself the perfect recipe for a high impact player this season.
